Into the World of the Elderly
My Reflections: . Our very first Leo elderly event on the 25th June=) We revised & executed this elderly event inspired from last year's. The task is to INTERACT with the elderly at the designated locations we're assigned to, make 5 observations & 5 needs of the elderly. Seems easy? . Think Again . Have you ever gone up to interact with the elderly in your community hoping to brighten up their day & break the monotomy? It's a random act but with clear objectives=) . Many were pushed out of their comfort zones to approach total strangers hoping to strike a simple conversation. Even for myself, I've got to buckle up & muster enough courage to do it. Afterall, if I am not proactive & not set a good example how will others follow? . Am I sincere when i went up to the elderly couple & chatted with them over breakfast? . Debatable since you can argue that I've done it because I am involved in the event & have to be proactive. Time will tell. Time's a true testament of a man's heart afterall. Don't you agree? . I've learnt that what WE can do best for our elders is to UNDERSTAND them. Showing them love, compassion & patience would certainly make them happier. One day, we will grow old too. I challenge you to incorporate this random act into your daily life & hopefully you will share with me one day what you've done=) .

I was reading this from xinMsn and i thought it would be good to note it here;) . Memory boostersTake a look at easy ways to increase your memory. . It doesn’t matter how much education you have had or how high your IQ score is, the fact remains that as we get older our memory doesn’t stay as sharp as it once was and we tend to forget things easier. This is mainly because the neurons in our brain that are responsible for memory lose elasticity over time. However, there are still tricks that you can do to improve and expand your brain which don’t have to be boring. We give you a few examples on how to flex that grey matter. . Write it down. Writing things down is a great way to increase your brain’s ability to remember things as it creates oxygenated blood flow to the areas of your brain that are responsible for your memories and literally exercises them. It tells your memory what it is important to remember. You should keep a diary, start a blog or write detailed emails to yourself. . Treat depression. Anything that causes major stress in life, including anxiety or anger will eventually eat away at the parts of the brain that are responsible for memory. Depression causes an increase in cortisol which diminishes certain brain areas, chief among them the hippocampus which is the clearing center for short-term memory, prolonged depression demolishes the brain's ability to remember anything new. . Eat fish. Fish is also known as brain food and that is because it actually speeds up brain waves and improves concentration. Coldwater fish, such as salmon, tuna, mackerel, and herring are rich sources of omega-3 fatty acids which are essential for brain health as they provide the physical building blocks necessary for the development and maintenance of the structural and functional ability of the brain. . Brainstorm. A good brainstorming session to think of new, interesting ideas is a great way to enhance your brains ability to think resourcefully. Brainstorming is in fact a different way of thinking that will provide your brain with a quick creative boost. . Eat less. Eating too much food has the consequence of reducing blood flow to the brain and increasing blood flow to the digestive system. As a result if you are able to cut back on the full amount of food you are able to eat, you will have better brain functioning. . Ask questions. Asking questions is an extraordinary way to keep your brain in shape. The reason for this is that by asking questions can provoke new thoughts and ideas and asking them is a great way to build up brain power. Make sure that you get into the habit of questioning others and their thoughts. (Ask intelligent qns). . Neurobic exercises. These will strengthen the neural pathways to the brain and consist of cognitive exercises and brain games which create new associations between different brain parts. Nuerobics include getting dressed or showering in the dark, using your opposite hand to brush your teeth, cooking foods that you haven’t cooked before or wearing your watch on your other arm. . Floss daily. Although this may sound like a strange one, flossing daily is actually essential when it comes to brain functionality because a build up of plaque between the teeth can cause an immune reaction that attacks the arteries, which then can’t deliver vital nutrients to the brain. . Do puzzles and play. Stimulating the brain causes measurable changes in the structure of the brain. New connections are made and new brain cells are grown. Intellectual play, as well as any playing that involves hand-eye coordination stimulates the brain. Similarly, crossword puzzles, lateral thinking puzzles, and even good riddles are a great way to get brain exercise. You can work on them while waiting for a dentist appointment, or on the bus, if you are short on time. Drawing stimulates the right-hemisphere of the brain and inspires creativity. Get out the colored pencils and begin drawing your way to a powerful brain. .

Today marks the end of CTs for this sem. Today marks the day when I lost crucial marks in MCQ due to carelessness for not reading instructions. It is BOLD and UNDERLINE " more than one choice can be chosen" But I did not see it. Therefore lost around 7 marks to be optimistic. Painful? Terribly Painful. Heartbroken? Shattered. What needs to be done? Learn my lesson. Work harder for my module. . Today marks the day when Science Fusion met her advisor from SDAR. He is none other than MR DY Kanaphat Kitratiprasan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was Surprise when i knew it. Not sure how to feel about it. But how do i feel about it now? Its a good thing. . Today marks the day I first went into a pub to eat. Wala Wala at Holland V. The chicken wings are GREAT! I drank Jim Bean mix with coke. Together with Vim, Sarah and her bf and Daryl! Great company! We went to The Daily Scoop! And I love it! Like it as much as Udders=P The brownie was over-the-roof! . Today marks the day where I finalize my first and latest goal; " To see your success, is my greatest joy" Vimala's hardwork for this CTs is heartening and I am sure she will do really well. If she comes up as one of the best, i would not be surprise. I hope she keeps up with the good work. Of course, I want to see Daryl to start chasing after his dreams. "Are you in denial?" A thought that crossed my mind. . As my goals I've set out for is pretty much left with getting the scholarship, its high time for me to set out on a new journey. Even if this attempt fails, the fall wouldn't be as harsh anymore. It will be a Dream-carried-forward. . Of course not forgetting about the first gastric flu incident. Not that it happened on me, but someone close to me. No amount of money, distinctions or fame can bring back lost health. . Lost wealth, grades, power and all the other tangibles, can be fought for and regained. Sleep is a MAJOR component of good health and i can't emphasize more on it. Lets take SLEEP more seriously from now on ok? . ROCK-n-ROLL . They who wants to give, gain the most.

Imagine there's no Heaven It's easy if you try No hell below us Above us only sky Imagine all the people Living for today . Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion too Imagine all the people Living life in peace . You may say that I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will be as one . Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can No need for greed or hunger A brotherhood of man Imagine all the people Sharing all the world . You may say that I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will live as one . *Will you join us in our idealistic imagination? *If we all believe, and work towards it, I believe, someday the world will live as one=)

Tomorrow's the last paper=) . Every step is filled with pain, literally. The joints betwn. my right leg and the hip bone seem to grind against each other. I am no longer able to stand late nights anymore. Hoping for peace and calmness is running through my mind. I'm getting older. *Definitely* Age is catching up a lil' too fast, prompting me to complete more things on my bucket list as well as adding in more things to do. . But before all the fun and action, I shall catch up with my sleep for that tank of energy needed. . 81 years old. The estimated age I am. . I love the mask Magician that decodes all the (magic tricks). He understands how i feel when i see (Magicians) perform their trickery before my eyes. These trickeries no longer excite the old man. . The only magic I know is the daily miracles that Life has given us. I am thankful for them and I still have some time to go to fulfil the dreams I dreamt before I retire for eternal peace. . =) . Smile and the world smiles with you. *Terms and conditions apply. . Have you planned your plan? がんばってよ!

<What Will Matterr>
--------------
Ready or not, some day it will all come to an end.
There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours or days.
All the thingd you collected, whether treasured or forgotten will pass to someone else.
Your wealth, fame and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance.
It will not matter what you owned or what you were owed.
Your grudges, resentments, frustrations and jealousies will finally disappear.
So too, your hopes, ambitions, plans and to-do lists will expire.
The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away.
It won't matter where you came from or what side of the tracks you lived on at the end.
It won't matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant.
Even your gender and skin colour will be irrelevant.
So what will matter? How will the value of your days be measured?
What will matter is not what you bought but what you built,
not what you got but what you gave.
What will matter is not your success but your significance.
What will ,atter is not what you learned but what you taught.
What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage or sacrifice that enriched, empower or encourafed others to emulate your example.
What will matter is not your competence but your character.
What will matter is not how many people you knew,
but how many will feel a lasting loss when you're gone.
What will matter is not your memories but the memoriesof those who loved you.
What will matter is how long you will be remembered, by whom and for what.
Living a life that matters doesn't happen by accident.
It's not a matter of circumstance but of choice.
Choose to live a life that matters.
--------------------------------------------
[IT’s Not Easy]
Let's be honest. Ethics is not for wimps. It's not easy being a good person.
It's not easy to be honest when it might be costly, to play fair when others cheat or to keep inconvenient promises.
It's not easy to stand up for our beliefs and still respect differing viewpoints.
It's not easy to control powerful impulses, to be accountable for our attitudes and actions, to tackle unpleasant tasks or to sacrifice the now for later.
It's not easy easy to bear criticism and learn from it without getting angry, to take advice or to admit error.
It's not easy to really feel genuine remorse and apologise sincerely, or to accept an apology graciously and truly forgive.
It's not easy to stop feeling like a victim, to resist cynicism and to make the best of every situation
It's not easy to be consistently kind, to think of others first, to judge generously, to give the benefit of doubt.
It's not easy to be grateful or to give without concern for reward or gratitude.
It's not easy to fail and still keep trying, to learn from failure, to risk failing again, to start over, to lose with grace to be glad for the success of another.
It's not easy to avoid excuses and rationalisations or to resist temptations.
No, being a person of character is not easy.
That's why its such a lofty goal and an admirable achievement.
